204. Life Flashing before my Eyes

Laura and Helmut moved into their new house this past Friday. It's a gorgeous craftsman in Los Feliz where they can walk to two different streets of wonderful restaurants and shops. We unpacked, we did some set up projects (OK, it was really that we were just bossing Ross around).

Several times in the weekend I had this feeling like my life was flashing in front of my eyes. Yesterday we were swooning over boys in our dorm-room, then losing love, finding love, milestone after milestone. The smell of Dove beauty bar takes me back. And unpacking a box here and there sends me forward. I was the first one to ever go on the toilet in the second bathroom. I know I'll be telling the kid that someday. That we'll be there for moves and milestones for years to come.

It's something drastic when your life flashes before your eyes. People talk about that happening at the end. But this was the beginning, the future flashing. I have a good feeling that a brilliant future is unraveling. It's nice to be there for people, for chosen family, to know that you'll be there together for the good times.

Congratulations, my dear friends! These are the good old days.

197. Rain, Rain GO AWAY!

I guess this is what counts in CA as the winter blahs. It's been grey and rainy for a few weeks and we all feel a bit crazy about it. Sure, it's 55 or 65 and we're not in pain when we try to get outside; we don't have to scrape or shovel; we don't have to hide inside a parka just to get the milk.

But, HELLO!?!? It's called, "Sunny California" ... can we get some sun, please?

190. Monterey at Last!

After a recovery day on Saturday, comprised mostly of sleeping and watching DVDs, we headed south to Monterey Bay today for a little adventure. I'd been dying to get to the aquarium to see their Jellies as Art exhibit and etc. The jellies were truly amazing. And to boot we got to see a white shark who was rescued from fishing nets and also the otters (tied with the Jellies for best creatures to watch today). We also did the 17-mile drive in Pebble Beach and then hit Carmel-by-the-Sea for some gallery hopping before the rain got bad. We listened to the Giants beat the Packers on the way to Los Gatos for some pizza and then home.

We are fine with retiring to Pebble Beach or Carmel. Really, just fine by us.

186. It is Wednesday

I didn't wreck or anything, that was good. And I met some new people. I got to be in some interesting meetings. But I did think it was Thursday, which presents something of a problem considering now there are two more days till the long weekend.

185. My Mother Always Said...

That if you don't have anything nice to say, you shouldn't say anything at all. Of course, she doesn't follow this advice and neither do I. But seriously, there is nothing to say about my day. With the recent changes in my routine, I just don't know what I can blog about. I'm doing a lot of talking to myself & taking deep breaths. Wish you were all here.

184. Bad Day

Not only was it Monday but it was bookended so:
AM: Ice on my windows to scrape, no scraper, waited for ice to defrost.
PM: Wrecked car .5 miles from home, just when I thought I was getting home at a reasonable hour.

Do some weeks start on Tuesday? I hope so... I need a mulligan.

183. Holidaze

for Sunday 13 Jan

This weekend marked the end of the crazy Holidaze for us. Alexis & Geof spent a very rainy week here and a few days after Geof headed back to AZ for some schoolin', Alexis flew back to TN/AL on the California Sunny day they never had...

173. 2008: Goodbye Girdle!

Happy New Year, Everyone!!

We rang in the new year at Lora & Marc's wedding, after a nice long visit with our Moms and my brother over Xmas.

Here you see me red-faced from dancing, as I madly attempted to burn off some of the calories I'd been taking in (and as evidenced by my horsey smile, I was having a great time!). All the food was so good leading up to the wedding; I consumed several dozen cookies and many, many wonderful truffles.

My confession is that apparently in just the days between fitting my dress and Lora getting married, I needed a girdle to make it go on...

So, ladies & gentlemen, here is my first order of business for 2008 : get back in shape!
